Naturopathy and specialization

Naturopathy is not just using natural remedies in place of drugs. It is a system of health care based upon investigating and treating the cause of illness.

Naturopathy is holistic. It understands that the whole body is one unit. Symptoms are not the problem per se. They are rather the sign of an underlining cause. Fix the cause and symptoms go away.

From a broad perspective there are only a few causes of disease:

  1. Nutritional deficiency
  2. Toxicity (infection or environmental toxins)
  3. Emotional stress and trauma
  4. Physical injury

It does not matter if someone comes in with toenail fungus, or cancer. I take the time to go through a full history and evaluation. Fix the underlining causes of disease and people get better.

This is why naturopathic doctors have traditionally been generalists who help people with many different health issues.

If there is any one thing a naturopathic doctor specializes in, it is health, healing and what the body needs in order to be well.
