Naturopathic Female Hormone Balancing

Hormonal imbalances don’t appear for no reason. Hormones are chemical messengers. Endocrine glands release them into circulation to tell the rest of the body what to do. They are a sign that something is off with the body. With hormones it’s one of these two things:

  1. Excess / Toxicity
  2. Deficiency

Things we have in excess :

  • Environmental toxins (i.e. heavy metals, plastics)
  • Infections (i.e. yeast, Candida, UTI)
  • Sugar and poor quality food
  • Emotional stress

Things we are deficient in:

  • Good quality food
  • Nutrients, vitamins, minerals
  • Exercise, sun light, water
  • Emotionally supportive environment

Conventional medicine often turns being a woman into a disease itself. For example, the most common treatment for any symptom related to a woman‘s period is birth control pills. This does not treat the cause of symptoms. Instead, it shuts down ovulation and the monthly hormonal cycle altogether.

Prevention of more serious hormonal issues such as fibroids or endometriosis has been almost non-existent. The same can be said about cancer. Screening for cancer is big business. Simple nutrition and detoxification for prevention of these problems is not.

Naturopathic medicine does try to force anything onto the body. A women‘s cycle, and later on transition to menopause are seen as natural life events. Naturopathic medicine simply seeks to support women through these events.

As a naturopathic doctor my job is to figure what is causing symptoms. If you give the body what it needs and take out the junk, people will feel better. Their hormones will also look better on lab tests.
